Born and raised in Croatia, fine art photographer Franka M. Gabler developed a strong fascination and admiration for nature early in life. Moving to California in 1997, and soon after experiencing her first wilderness backpacking trip in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, Franka fell in love with the amazing landscapes before her. The simple and complex interaction of the water, rocks, sky, plants and wildlife of the high country mountains encouraged her to pick up the camera as a medium to express her feelings and share them with others. Now spending as much time as possible hiking and exploring wilderness areas, Franka always carries her camera and tripod, capturing countless images with her own unique perspective. 

While enjoying expansive views, more often she finds herself drawn to details of nature that are hidden, transient, or understated. Often she uncovers hidden personalities concealed within rocks, reflections, and waterfalls.

She is the member of Yosemite Western Artists and her photographs are regularly published in Yosemite Sierra Visitors Guide.  She is affiliated with Stellar Gallery in Oakhurst and Spectrum Gallery in Fresno.

She currently lives in the Sierra foothills, in the small mountain town of Coarsegold, California. Photography is her passion. While photographing, she feels at peace with nature.

She has a career as a scientist, and holds Ph.D. in Plant Pathology.
